WE ARE KEEPERS OF THE SACRED FLAME...
Ord Brighideach, (translated in English as the Order of Brighid), is a Brighidtine Order of Flame Keepers and Water Tenders engaging in devotional work to Brighid. We are a non-denominational religious Order; all are welcome whom Brighid calls, regardless of gender, religion/faith, ethnicity, ability/disability. Brighid welcomes us all beneath her mantle, so we must always be welcoming to one another.
She is the healing well and the purging flame, she is the protector of the Earth and its innocents, children, and animals.
She is known by many names across time and in many cultures:
St. Brigit, Brighid, Brid, Bride, Briga, Brigid, Bridgid, Briginda, Brigdu, Brigittina, Brigantia, Maman Brigitte.
We of Ord Brighideach have heard and have answered Her call; our members continue Brighid's work in our time. We are committed to carrying out Brighid's work in this world in the manner in which we have been called, or, if we have not yet been called, in a manner in which we feel will serve her.
If she speaks to you - as poet, healer, smith, storyteller, musician, craftsperson, midwife, mother, hearth keeper, land steward, tender of herds, seer, woman of fire, lawgiver, deity of the home, lady of the sun, or simply as saint or goddess - you are welcome to walk among us.

Sisterhood of The Sacred FlameWe are excited to introduce our Sisterhood of the Sacred Flame, this will be a separate branch from Ord Brighideach. that will offer "The Red Tent Forum" and courses for all women.
With that said I want to appoligize to our Brothers that are part of Ord Brighideach. One of the things that I have always loved and will always keep with the Order is having both men and women flame keepers, however when Brighid came to me in meditation with the idea of offering courses to fund Ord Brighideach, so that we can continue to not charge dues to our members. I knew that I would not be able to provide courses that would truly benefit the men in this group. My background has been in sisterhoods, providing grief support for women and teaching women Pilates and Yoga. It just felt like the right decision to me, and I hope our brothers understand this decision If at any time. one of our brothers would like to step forward to create courses or a forum for the men of Ord Brighideach, I would be thrilled to connect the information on to Ord Brighideach's website, as I have done here with the Sisterhood. I would also help provide web design and support if needed. |
The Three-Fold Fire of Brighid
Fire in the forge that shapes and tempers Fire in the cauldron that nourishes and heals Fire in the head that incites and inspires |
"Brighid - a poetess, daughter of the Dagda. She is the female sage, woman of wisdom, or Brighid the Goddess whom poets venerated because very great and famous of her protecting care. She was therefore called "Goddess of Poets". Her sisters were Brighid the female physician, and Brighid the female smith; among all Irishmen, a goddess was called 'Brighid". Brighid is from "breo-agit” or "fiery arrow'."
Cormac's Glossary, believed to be the oldest writing about Brighid. |

History of Ord Brighideach Ord Brighideach was created by Abbess Kim in 1997, she originally started as a flame keeper with Daughter's of The Flame and wished to create a group accessible to many more people, men and women, and entirely accessed through the internet. For 20 years Abbess Kim kept the Order going until her retirement in 2017.
She passed the mantle on to Abbess Rose, at that time, the website needed completely redone, many links no longer worked as website servers began to change and advance. 2 years later Abbess Rose rebirthed the Order in June of 2019 with the help of me Sorcha Aelfrun Star. Sadly in December of 2021 Abbess Rose decided to retire, and has now passed the mantle on to me. I am proud and grateful to be here with all of you to carry on the traditions of Ord Brighideach. Although much of the information on our previous websites has been lost over time, I have been able to capture a few things in able to bring the old in with the new, the banner to the left was used on the website for many years while Abbess Kim was here. The words above of the three-fold fire, was used on the home page for most of Ord Brighideach's time. The flame logo on the top of our website was created for Abbess Rose and used on the banner of the website she had created for the Orders rebirth. If there is anything you recall from our history that you would like to be rekindled here on our website just send me an email or if you have question please feel free to reach out @ sorchaaelfunstarr@yahoo.com. Brightest Blessings my Dear Members, Sorcha Aelfrun Starr |
